RCHDC Home

How It Works

RCHDC offers homeownership opportunities to families and individuals who might not otherwise have the chance to own their own home.  RCHDC is a local non-profit established in 1975 for the purpose of providing affordable housing to low and moderate-income people.  We have successfully helped homeowners complete over 400 homes on the North Coast.

Through RCHDC’s Self-Help Homeownership Program, first-time homebuyers who do not currently have the resources for a down payment or large monthly mortgage payments can help build their own homes on lots in the Ukiah area.

The United States Department of Agriculture sponsors this program and requires that participants meet certain income requirements and be willing to work a minimum number of hours each week.

RCHDC is recruiting households that fit these requirements to begin construction of homes in the Lakewood Homes Subdivision in Ukiah and Island View Homes in Lakeport. RCHDC handles the paperwork, orders the building materials, and provides a construction supervisor, then you and other qualified households from our community build the homes.   The building program of RCHDC meets or exceeds all local and national building codes.
